Timothy Richards Models

Timothy Richards architectural models and bookends are unique, and he remains at the forefront of this genre of work. Central to the theme is that of architectural truth; the replication of fine detail through the use of British Gypsum plaster. Additional detail added in etched brass, lead and copper. Only traditional materials are used, you will find no resin or plastic within his workshop.

All designs are well researched using a combination of original plans and detailed photographs. The range includes many general as well as limited edition pieces. These are in a variety of styles and all feature specific buildings by known architects.

The process is essentially simple but requires much skill and patience. To begin with a master is made and from this a mold taken. The castings produced from this mold are then hand worked and finished, the whole process being very labour intensive. Each object is an individual, the exact markings and patination being impossible to replicate.

His clients include The Royal Collection Enterprises, The Historic Royal Palace Group, Christies Auction House, The Royal Academy of Arts, Castle Howard Estates, The National Portrait Gallery and the Victoria & Albert Museum. He has also carried out commissions from Spain, Germany, France and a number of other countries. An increasing number of 20th Century architecture pieces are being featured.

In the next few years a number of pieces from landmark buildings will be produced spanning both historic and modern eras. Recently the Casa Batlló by the Catalan architect Gaudí as well as a New York Deco piece have been launched. The business will continue to produce both limited and general editions and develop new approaches to demonstrating beauty in architecture.

Julia West has admired the work of Timothy Richards for years, and through Julia West Home she is pleased to make them available in Canada.
